Firefox 2.0.0.5 Released
Interesting update with security features.
A new version of Firefox was released last night and fixed some security issues that no one seems to take the heat for, but the Mozilla foundation seems to be stepping up and fixing the problem.
The update will automatically update your Firefox, which may cause some problems.
Problems in the sense that most of my add-ons are incompatible with the new version of Firefox and since I've already updated, I'm already having problems with my status bar and weather updates.
Mozilla Foundation releases Thunderbird 2.0
The Mozilla Foundation packed a ton of new features into Thunderbird 2.0.
If you're looking for an email replacement to MS Outlook, you may want to consider Thunderbird 2.0. It was released yesterday and showcases a lot of new features. Check it out.
To summarize the new features:

- Message Tagging
- Improved Search
- Easy Access to popular web mail services
- Customize Thunderbird with themes and add-ons
- Better phishing detection
- and much more
Make sure you update to the latest Thunderbird version to get these great features.
Songbird 0.2.5 is set free!
An iTunes Alternative called Songbird releases a new version.
Songbird has definitely caused some waves with the audio community and produced some excellent extensions to help users organize their song collection.
A new version of Songbird is released. Version 0.2.5 of Songbird has the following features:
- Windows Media DRM Audio Playback (win32)
- Quicktime DRM Audio Playback (osx/win32)
- USB Mass Storage Device (win32)
- iPod Device (linux/osx/win32)
- Automatic Locales Downloading!
- All New Add-Ons Site!
- OS Integration! Plucked Feathers!
- Web Library!
- Bugfixes!
As you can see, there is a lot to sing about with this new release.
Free TiVo: MythDora 3.1 Released!
The newest update to MythDora has been released.
For those who followed my post on How to create your own TiVo, MythDora 3.0 was updated this week to version 3.1 (there was a bug in 3.0) and the version of MythTV included is 0.20, the latest and greatest.
I'll be looking into upgrading my version to 3.1 this weekend, but I wonder if it will be easy enough to go to MythDora Tools and just select Update.
My guess is no. :-)
Dojo 0.4 released!
Dojo has updated their library to 0.4 with a ton of enhancements.
Origin: Ajaxian - After using Dojo for a little while, I've come to learn that everytime I get comfortable with the latest version of Dojo, a new release comes out with a new slew of features and enhancements (I am definitely not complaining).
I am extremely excited about the Dojo 0.4 release because of the following features:
- Closed 529 bugs (Hey, everyone loves stability)
- dojo.charting
- dojo.gfx, which renders SVG or VML.
- dojo.widget
These are features that I have been waiting for and I'll definitely be including each feature in my next project.
Songbird: Flipping the bird to version 0.2
A new version of Songbird has been released! Extensions have arrived for the Songbird.
Back in September, I talked about Songbird as an iTunes alternative. Since then, I've been waiting for the extensions to emerge.
Now, Songbird 0.2 is released with extensions. Since it builds off of the Firefox extensions architecture, the music extensions should will be familiar to Firefox users.
Here is a list of the first extensions developed by Songbird users (the "early birds"):
FeedDemon Update - 2.0.0.25
New update for FeedDemon release
FeedDemon 2.0.0.25 is released and improved the following items: security and performance issues.
MochiKit releases a new version
MochiKit releases version 1.3 of its "lightweight JavaScript library"
I've never heard of MochiKit, but it contains an additional module called Mochi.Signal, which is a simple universal event handling, simplifying JavaScript event handling tremendously.
Thunderbird 1.5.0.2 Released!
Mozilla's Thunderbird has been released with some interesting features.
Is everyone using Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird? I'm personally using Thunderbird.
Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.2 has been released with the following features (Taken directly from the Mozilla site):
- Automated update to streamline product upgrades. Notification of an update is more prominent, and updates to Thunderbird may now be half a megabyte or smaller. Updating extensions has also improved.
- Sort address autocomplete results by how often you send e-mail to each recipient.
- Spell check as you type.
- Saved Search Folders can now search across multiple accounts.
- Built in phishing detector to help protect users against email scams.
- Podcasting and other RSS Improvements.
- Deleting attachments from messages.
- Integration with server side spam filtering.
- Reply and forward actions for message filters.
- Kerberos Authentication.
- Auto save as draft for mail composition.
- Message aging.
- Filters for Global Inbox.
- Improvements to product usability including redesigned options interface, and SMTP server management.
- Many security enhancements.
The key items I'm looking at are the Podcasting, Kerberos Authentication, and the built-in phishing detector.

Get the update!
WinAmp has the newest fix to a critical security issue that allows someone to control your computer. Yikes!
