Code and Coffee (love that name) collected a great list of free stock icons for your next application that provide exceptional value because:

Leah Buley has created the IA OneSheeters for designers/developers.

One thing designers and developers don't like to do is document, but Leah Buley has created a quick way to get a point across on one page, or more appropriately, called IA One Sheeters.

The IA One Sheeters provided are Wireframes, Heuristic Evaluation, and Usability Testing. Since she started building the first three, see if you can create your own for your own business.

Boxes and Arrows writer Erin Malone discusses her transition from designer to manager.

You have stars in your eyes, right? You want the title, you want the prestige, oh..and you probably want the money? Making a transition from a worker to a manager is difficult and, trust me, it may not be greener on the other side.

Erin Malone was promoted from a designer to a manager and now that she's a manager, she's made some interesting realizations. Her article, "So you think you want to be a manager?", is right on target and recommend reading it before taking that managerial position.

Web Design mockup using Photoshop

Before you even touch an ounce of code, create a web design mockup.

As you are working with a client, make sure that you create at least two mockups of what the site is supposed to look like. If you can provide this to them, this will achieve two things:

  • A blueprint for you to start piecing together a site.
  • Give the client an option of what they like about one site compared to the other sites (mockups) you are presenting them.

The undersigned shows the web designing workflow of what the designer is going through when you are presenting a mockup to a user.
