Randy Pausch passed away recently (Oct. 23, 1960 - July 25, 2008)
For those who haven't heard of this fantastic speaker, Randy Pausch was a Carnegie Mellon Professor and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His doctor said that he was expected to live around 3-6 months.
When he gave his "Last Lecture" on September 18, 2007, he focused on Achieving your Childhood Dreams instead of talking about his cancer.

Time to get back into the saddle...
After a short time to get things back in order and getting some organization in my life, I'm starting to dig back into the site.
I'll be posting some new articles later in the week (Ahhh...I've missed the postings...)

Things are getting a little too busy lately.
Since I've been working at my full-time job (with overtime), working on two products, four websites, and continuing to work with my existing 15 clients, I've been trying to make time for DCS Media.
Unfortunately, there is only so much time in a day.

What's the difference between an RSS feed and an EMail?
I've recently received an email from an individual asking me why I'd use an RSS feed as opposed to a regular email?
I've been using RSS since I've started my Micro ISV blog, but for those who don't know what an RSS feed is, I'll refer you to my Beginner's Guide To RSS.

For real estate agents who desperately need a web site built yesterday, Top Producer provides a top-notch way to build a real estate web site.
Ever since the Blog Tour USA visited Columbus, I've been subtly surrounded by realtors or news about realtors in and outside my area. They're haunting me and I think it's a sign. :-)
If you're a real estate agent and you want to get started on the Internet and need a quick way to kick-start your site, I would seriously look at Top Producer.com.
Exceptional Food Site...by CNET?

Looking for a stylish food site that deals with everything from recipes to videos? It seems CNET is expanding.
I ran across CHOW through FeedMyApp and the site definitely caught my attention. Not because the site is labeled as a "Web 2.0" site, but visibly, the CNET design team was able to transfer the look and feel of a CNET personality to the site as well.
What blew my mind was that CHOW was created by CNET and is now included in the CNET Network of sites.

Here are five technologies that transferred from the movies to reality.

Even James Bond doesn't have it this good.

Take your USB Flash Drive and load it up with software to turn it into a portable workhorse.
In the last segment, we talked about how to get the best deal on a USB Flash drive. Heck, you could even get the USB Flash Drive for free.
So, now you have your USB Flash Drive and are ready for the best part of this series: loading software onto your USB Flash Drive. Choose between Operating Systems or Applications...or both.

How to find (and buy) a cheap USB flash drive. The best deals appear when you least expect it...like in this article.
In the last part, you answered the question why you needed a USB drive and we discussed the different types of USB Drives available. In part 2 of this series, we talk about where to get the best deal on a USB drive.
Where are the deals?
I've seen 1GB USB flash drives at your local Wal-Mart for $30-$50 (UPDATE: ok, they dropped the price on it, but it's still too much), and I wonder why people pay so much. Recently, I just purchased a 2GB SD Card for $4.99 ($20 rebate). Yes, $5!. Ha-HA!

What kind of USB Flash Drive do you want?
USB flash drives are what I consider to be the floppy drives of the millenium. Most everyone is using a USB drive for either transporting documents from one location to another or they are using it for a utility of some kind.
As I see everyone carrying their USB drives around their neck, in their pockets, and on their wrist watches, I sometimes wonder if they use them for storage or a utility for booting into your own operating system. But enough about everyone else...why do you need one?

How to store your photos and videos on vacation

How do you store your media while on vacation? Here are the gadgets I used without breaking my back.
Using technology on vacation is very tempting. I thought about borrowing a laptop to haul down to Florida, but imagine hauling that around. Yikes! You need to relax and enjoy yourself, but you want a sufficient amount of techie stuff to get the job done. I might add that taking too many gadgets on vacation may upset your better half as well.
However, I didn't want to be left with a ton of pictures to take and no SD cards to write to. I wanted to "capture the moments." In the computer industry, there is a saying: you can never have too much memory or hard drive space and this vacation was no exception.

Remember history or we'll be doomed to repeat it. ALRIGHT!!
As we come to a close of this year (and working up to DCS Media's anniversary), it seems a lot has happened over the past year.
Read/Write Web talks about the 2006 year in review and all of the year's major events, and based on their report, I'd say it was pretty fantastic.

Now we're talking some gifts!
For those who don't know what to get their loved ones who they don't see often or the ones who they do see more often than normal (<bg>), I'm sure whoever they are, if they're a gadgeteer, they would love some awesome technology for Christmas.
Fast Company has a list of great gadgets for the mobile professional who travels a lot. The gifts are a little pricey except for the software, but for those who are looking for the unique gift, this is a good starter list.

Apple iTunes Alternative: Songbird

Songbird has all of the primary features, but is 1/4 the size of Apple's iTunes.
About a month ago, I ran across a open source project called Songbird that is similar to Apple iTunes and I've been using it ever since. It is definitely an alternative to Apple's iTunes for your Apple iPod.
I understand Apple has stepped up and created their own Music-topia where everyone can listen to music and now, watch videos and TV shows, but I feel that when downloading an update, I'm loading up my machine with a lot of extra features that I really don't need. This is where Songbird comes in.
